Winthrop Ave

The clients were drawn to this home because it sits high up on a hill, with an almost 180-degree view from the backyard. They weren’t sure how to turn it into their dream home but knew it needed to go down to studs and they needed help.

One of the major concerns with this home was the original 1950’s kitchen and master bath. The husband was a professional chef prior to the couple having children. He needed an efficient kitchen design with tons of storage. The dining/kitchen/living rooms were small and disjointed. We removed a few key walls to allow for visual connections of spaces and added a modern take on a butler’s pantry to accommodate their second fridge and need for storage. A large window was added over the sink to maximize views of the outside. A screen that was original to the home was incorporated in the new kitchen design as a nod to its history and provided privacy from the entry. The new design called for a second fireplace in the dining room, which was uncovered during the demolition. We incorporated one of three small closets into the master bath to give them the “epic” shower, dual vanity, and compartmentalized toilet they desired.

New energy-efficient windows, painted cabinets with walnut accents, new tile fixtures and finishes throughout, a re-built rear screened porch, and a new exterior paint scheme complete with a sunny yellow front door transformed this house into their forever family home.
