The clients wanted an outdoor space that was an extension of their indoor living areas. A kitchen, dining, and tv lounge were requested, along with modernizing the home’s exterior color schemes and materials.

At over 55’ in length, a fire pit and private lounge space off the master bedroom were added in addition to the functions requested by the clients. In order to delineate the spaces and functions, a variety of overhead treatments and roof coverings were used. Composite wood ceilings signal the dining and tv lounge spaces, with ceiling fans to mitigate the hot Texas summers. The kitchen area is tucked under the exterior overhang. An overhead steel trellis provides filtered light for the chairs around the fire pit, while the structure above the fire pit is open to the sky. Overhead string lights lend a cozy feel to the private lounge space.

Steel was chosen for its durability and modern, thin profile. Composite wood is very low maintenance while adding warmth. The Moroccan fish scale backsplash in blue evokes water, cooling the space. A custom blue glass fire pebble mix echoes the backsplash, providing continuity in the space. The new exterior color scheme includes a rich navy with crisp white trim.
