Autumn Drive

The homeowners are a young couple with three teenagers, dogs, and cats. They needed a kitchen that met their modern way of living, while staying true to the MCM design of this historically significant design by Larry Gernsbacher.
The existing kitchen was dark, not functional, consisted of several small closed spaces, and had no connection to outside. I wanted to give them a kitchen that could handle their daily lives, but did not turn it's back on the importance of the original design. The new kitchen needed a connection to the outside , more storage, and a kitchen that functioned better. I wanted to be sensitive to Larry's design, while updating the space for the way people live 65 years later. Teak was chosen for the cabinets, while new terrazzo flooring was poured to match existing.
The powder room off of the kitchen was updated with brighter finishes and the same warm teak cabinetry.
